Tanning a Tattoo

Posted on: January 28th, 2008 by Shana 1 Comment

As a kid, I’d drawn on myself with sunscreen so that after a day outside, I’d have white stars and hearts in the middle of my bright red sunburn. I might have been onto something more than melanoma.

Taiwanese designer Yu-Chiao Wang created a robe that allows sun (or, better yet, sunless tanning spray) to get through in a pattern, resulting in a temporary, full-body design. It’d definately be a unique addition to an open back dress.

You can check out some of the visuals of the skin-mottling garment at Yanko Design.

How to do smokey blue eyes

Posted on: January 22nd, 2008 by Beauty Schools Directory No Comments

Are you a shining blonde goddess with a need for smoky eyes? We have the secret!

You can also see this tutorial as a video or find a make up school.

Ashley Before

It doesn’t take black eye liner to get that smoky look when you have blue eyes. You can create it without using colors that are too dark. Ashley is our subject for this demonstration.

Base eye make-up

To begin, we’ll start with a primer on her lids. This creates a smoother, longer-lasting, and crease-proof eye shadow application.Base eye make-up

The base color is essential. We don’t want to go too dark yet. We’re applying a silver blue shadow to Ashley as our base color.

Smoky blue eyes

Now, let’s go green for a cooler, neutral shadow. In this case, we will use a blue-green in the crease.

Smoky blue eyes

Pretty dramatic, right? Already, her eyes are beginning to smolder. Now let’s apply a bit of dark blue in the crease as well.

Applying eye shadow

When doing this at home, apply makeup in layers and you won’t get it too dark. That way, you don’t have to worry about taking anything off. We also suggest that you blend the colors on the lid.

Eyeliner make up tutorial

Now, let’s line Ashley’s top lid with black and the bottom lid with dark blue. It doesn’t take much to accentuate what we’ve already done.

Mascara

Finally, we will apply black mascara to the upper and lower lashes. We will finish up by filling in Ashley’s eyebrows with a brownish-blonde brow shadow.

Smokey eyes - open

The end result are perfect smokey blue eyes. Isn’t she gorgeous? She’s ready for a night on the town!

Top Beauty Jobs in 2008

Posted on: January 3rd, 2008 by Beauty Schools Directory 3 Comments

CareerBuilder recently published the 30 Top Jobs of 2008 and predicted that service industry jobs would account for nearly 75 percent of all jobs by 2016. The top jobs categories included health care, financial services and computer training. If you’re not into blood, human anatomy, computers or you’re not good with numbers, it might seem you would be out of luck. There is still hope for us interested in cosmetology.

Among the 30 Top Jobs of 2008 I found three occupations that can make the world a more beautiful place (no blood, needles or numbers included).

Make-up Artists, Theatrical and Performance

Coming in as the #7 job on CareerBuilder’s list, this lifestyle of the beautiful and fabulous occupation is predicted to see a nearly 40 percent growth over the next eight years. Making people beautiful has a salary range of $30,630 – $46,300 a year and requires minimal make-up training. Have a flare for the dramatic side? Make everyday Broadway actors into Cats or a very Wicked witch. Theatre not your style? Make Carrie Underwood sparkle on tour or travel with Fall Out Boy and apply Pete Wentz’s eye liner.

Skin Care Specialist

Zits happen. Skin Care Specialists are out there to make them happen less. The #11 job of 2008 is expected to see a 34 percent growth. Making skin look young and fresh requires a little esthetician school and has an average salary range of $21,260 – $30,560 per year and this job offers a wide variety of locales. Work at the salon just down the street or at a luxury resort anywhere in the world. Like to travel? Cruise ships often house full service salons and spas for relaxed travelers.

Manicurists and Pedicurists

The difference between beautiful and drop-dead gorgeous is attention to detail. We’ve all seen celebrities make this mistake (Cameron Diaz is notorious). They pay thousands of dollars to hire top make-up artists, hair stylists and designers to make them look beautiful, then one close up of their $1.5 million Neil Lane diamond ring or $500 Jimmy Choo’s and the gig is up! These pics reveal chipped fingernail paint and gnarly toes. Manicurists and pedicurists jobs are expected to grow nearly 28 percent. With a little training, you can become a manicurist in 2008!
