Beauty blogs are always posting about the newest products and the best beauty tips. To go away from the norm, here are the top five tips to NOT follow in your makeup blog with the ONLY exception being Halloween. But if you choose to partake in one of these beauty no-no’s on any other day of the year, prepare yourself for public gawking.
5: Makeup OVERloaddddd Killer Klowns from Outer Space was indeed the name of a 1988 cult horror movie. However, you weren’t in it, nor should you dress like you were. Women who cake on the makeup need to realize that less is actually more. It’s the way you apply it and the tricks of application that help you achieve that desired chic look. Do not, and I repeat do not apply makeup that mimics a clown. They are creepy, and you will be too if you wear enough makeup in one day to last an average human being one month.
4: The fake baked orange-tainted look So summer is officially over and that means that we’re going to be seeing a lot more pale bodies surfacing over the months. It’s okay that is what we like to call natural. However, some people like to stay tanned and there’s nothing wrong with that – as long as it’s done in moderation. In the middle of December you should not look like you just got back from the beach…unless in fact you really did just get back from a vacation at the beach. Self-tanning spray or lotion and bronzer are other things you need to be wary about. If you don’t apply it correctly you can be left with that dirt in-between your fingers look. You know what it looks like. The tanning lotion settles for too long in places you wouldn’t expect and as a result it looks like you’ve just finished digging a hole to nowhere during your recess break in grade school –the webbing of your fingers is significantly darker than any other part of your skin. Not so good-looking to say the least unless you just happen to love Snookie’s copper look.
3: We blush when we’re embarrassed; Lets keep it at that . Blush can be a very trivial thing, but if done correctly it can turn even the dullest appearance into a beaming beauty. The proper use of blush can help liven up an ordinary face and bring out the radiance of an unusual one. How one applies blush determines whether they can bring out the structural beauty of a face. You can add shape and dimension, refine a slightly plump one by narrowing it down or simply give your complexion the warm glow of youth. Just don’t overdo it and end up looking like Raggedy Anne or Strawberry Shortcake. Blush overload should only be allowed when doing the makeup on dolls.
2: Easy on the blue – emulating Mimi from The Drew Carey Show isn’t in style…and never will be. Where to begin here? Blue eyeshadow, like most makeup, can be done correctly as long as the ultimate outcome blends in with the whole picture. You don’t want it to draw attention to your face like a car wreck. You want the whole package to shine. The 1960’s “straight out there for everyone to see” blue eyeshadow died off for a reason. It did however make its reappearance in the 1990’s when Mimi from The Drew Carey Show abruptly and horrifyingly brought it back. Between her and a clown…I couldn’t tell you which one is scarier.
1. The “Are you tired” or “You don’t look so well” look There’s not much worse than when someone asks you if you’re tired or not feeling well when in fact you feel perfectly fine. It’s like a slap to the face and potentially to your makeup style or maybe lack thereof. Incorrect make-up color choices can actually make your skin appear tired. You’re thinking how, right? Easy – by unintentionally wearing colors with gray in them. A grayish pink blush, a grayish mauve lipstick, a grayish eyeshadow – even your foundation could be gray. So take these tips and stay away from that gray, drab look because you don’t want to wander around your work looking like a want-to-be, flesh-eating zombie do you (look at the picture below)? Yep, didn’t think so.
