Ever thought about mixing alcohol in a mani and pedi treatement? Many big city salons offer alcohol in their spa services as a way to actually exfoliate dead skin. We thought this could be a clever way to practice our knowledge learned in nail tech school with a little summer R&R. Digging to find the best ones out there, we’ve gathered three do it yourself treatments from health.com to try at home.
1. The Martini Manicure
How it works: The alcohol acts as an antiseptic, and the citrus from the lime contains alpha hydroxy acids to exfoliate dead skin.
Directions: Combine ½ cup sugar, ½ cup olive oil, 2 tablespoons of Bacardi Grand Melon or Bacardi Limón, 1/4 cup shredded coconut, and 2 tablespoons of mashed cantaloupe into a bowl. Mix well and apply to hands (or feet) and massage into skin 2 – 3 minutes before rinsing.
2. Margarita Salt Scrub
How it works: The salt acts as an exfoliator, and the alcohol in the tequila cleanses skin.
Directions: Combine 1 cup of fine sea salt, 2 ounces of olive oil, the juice of 1 lime, and ½ shot of white tequila in a cup or bowl until blended. Slather the mixture onto damp skin in gentle circular motions. (You can do this while taking a shower or bath). Let sit for a few minutes then rinse.
3. The Beer Pedicure
How it works: The yeast in the beer softens the bottoms of feet, and the alcohol is antibacterial and works as a natural antiseptic.
Directions: Fill a bowl or basin with enough warm water to cover your ankles. Add ½ bottle of your favorite beer, and stir. Keep your feet in the mixture for 10 –15 minutes, then cover with lotion.
