Gulf Oil Spill – How Cosmetology Schools Can Help

Posted on: May 14th, 2010 by Beauty Schools Directory 1 Comment

The mess of oil spilled in the Gulf of Mexico is a major ecological issue.  While the US government, BP, and other experts try to figure out how to stop and clean up the gulf oil spill, there are easy things that cosmetology  schools and salon owners can do to help.

Since hair is naturally absorbant to oil, a lot of hair together can make a very effective sponge to soak up the oil. Matter of Trust, a charity organization that works to promote ecologically sustainable systems, is organizing the collection and distribution of hair clippings, from beauty schools, salons, and even pet groomers, in order to help clean up the gulf oil spill.

This is an incredibly easy and inexpensive way that everyday citizens and businesses can do their part to clean up the mess. Contact the owner of your cosmetology school, salon, or pet groomer to find out if they are participating. If not – let them know how they can help!

  1. I can’t believe these morons at BP. They have got to be the worst, irreponsible people on earth the way they are dealing with this oil spill.
