Are you a cosmetology student who is looking for an opportunity to become the next big name? Do you have a love for fashion and beauty and dream of enrolling in a beauty school? While there are many cities across the country that can provide both beauty education resources and professional opportunities related to the beauty industry, only some of these locations have high concentrations of beauty shoppers.
While some might assume big cities like Miami, Dallas and Chicago might serve as the most profitable cities for cosmetologists and salon owners, you may want to think again before you make your next big move. A recent InStyle.com article has shed new light on where consumers are spending big bucks on beauty.
InStyle.com’s article, “The 10 Most Beauty-Obsessed Cities, According to FourSquare,†discusses some of America’s most beauty-centric cities based on social media data. In order to get a social media-centric view of beauty shopper’s habits and concentrations across the U.S., FourSquare tabulated user “check-ins†at popular beauty stores like Sephora and Ulta. A list was created based on the top ten cities that were able to obtain over 300,000 “check ins†at beauty stores.
Surprisingly, Fresno, CA, Lubbock, TX and Tulsa, OK were the top 3 cities to make the list. In addition to being the homes of strong beauty shopper’s communities, Fresno, Lubbock and Tulsa are home to a host of beauty schools as well.
More predictable locations like Atlantic City, NJ, New York, NY, Houston, TX, San Francisco, CA and Pensacola, FL rounded out the bottom five cities on the list. Champaign, IL, home of the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, made a strong showing at number four on the list while Las Vegas, NV, rounded out the top five. Las Vegas, in particular, made a strong showing on the list due to the city’s affiliation with beauty industry events. Many professional beauty associations hold conferences in the city each year. Las Vegas also plays host to some of the industries most anticipated trade shows and hair and beauty competitions.
The information in InStyle.com’s article exposes an interesting trend that could be profitable to professional cosmetologists and beauty school students. Whether you are a soon-to-be graduate or just making inquires into beauty school, be sure to make a strategic move when you relocate to pursue a career or school. According to FourSquare, each of these cities supports a strong and vibrant concentration of beauty shoppers who are willing to spend big bucks for your service and skill. These cities could serve as an ideal environment to start a career, advance to salon ownership or develop new clientele to make a name for yourself in the industry.Tags: beauty obsession, beauty-obsessed, FourSquare, InStyle Magazine, Sephora, Ulta
