One question we get here at Beauty Schools Directory from a lot of people who are interested in cosmetology is, “Is cosmetology school hard?” and sometimes we get, “Is cosmetology school easier than regular college?” Well I wanted to shoot a little video to answer this question face-to-face and explain why cosmetology school is easier for those who are passionate about it, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Let us know what you think in the comments. Thank for watching!

Hey guys! This is Heather with Beauty Schools Directory. Today I want to talk to you about a question we get a lot from people who are considering beauty school. And that question is, “Is cosmetology school easier than a four-year university?”

So let’s face it, four-year school isn’t for everyone. And it’s not because it’s too difficult – it’s because it’s a completely different world, and a lot of four-year schools don’t actually offer cosmetology programs, so that might mean you’re thinking cosmetology school is for you. Now that doesn’t mean that cosmetology school is a cake walk or an easy way out. It actually requires a person who has dedication, motivation, ambition, who’s focused, and who isn’t afraid to put in the time, effort and hard work to be successful.

Now, you’re going to learn more than just beauty at cosmetology school. It’s not just walking in to school and starting to make people pretty. There’s a lot more to it than that. A lot of things people don’t realize that you’re going to learn in school is anatomy and physiology, you’re going to learn safety and sanitation, color theory, you’re going to learn some basic elements of chemistry for when it comes to mixing hair color and working with different beauty products. It really runs a broad spectrum. It’s a pretty well-rounded education.

Now, that said, if you’re passionate about cosmetology, and you know that working in the beauty business is your dream job, cosmetology school might come more naturally for you. It might be easier for you than some other people who don’t really care about being there or don’t love beauty the way that you do. So, you’ll learn through a number of different learning styles. You’ll read textbooks and study that way. You’re going to be in an in-class lecture working with your cosmetology instructors so you’ll see and hear what they have to teach you. But best of all, you’re going to be doing hands-on work on the salon floor on real clients to learn these skills in cosmetology.

So I guess the answer to the question, “Is cosmetology school easy?” is no. No, it’s not easy. It takes hard work and dedication. But if you’re passionate about beauty and you know that cosmetology is the business you want to be in, then it might come a little easier for you.

I have been in the hair business as a barber, shop owner, and educator for almost 20 years. I did not got to college but I worked just as hard if not harder on my education. I got a great education from my initial training but it did not stop there. I have continued my technical education through advanced classes, I have continued my business education through reading, talking with successful, customers, and attending seminars. I have worked on my communication skills though public speaking courses. This all may sound like hard work but when you have a passion and love for what you do it is not work at all.
