CosmOtology Schools or CosmEtology Schools?
Isn't it spelled "cosmotology," not "cosmetology?"
The correct spelling is cosmetology (cosme), but the word is commonly misspelled as cosmotology (cosmo). There is no difference between cosmetology and the often misspelled "cosmotology." Therefore cosmotology, cosmo school and cosmopolitan school all mean the same thing as cosmetology.
Why is this?
The
most logical explanation is probably due to the word cosmopolitan which
begins with "cosmo." Particularly for people who follow and read about
beauty, fashion, and cosmetics, this cosmotology confusion most likely results from
the long-standing fashion magazine with the same name, Cosmopolitan. The magazine covers topics about the latest trends and styles in
fashion and beauty, so it's easy to understand where people would
confuse "cosmopolitan" with cosmetology, or "cosmotology" and "cosmopolitan school."
The definition of cosmopolitan is "common to the world" or "from many different parts of the world," so maybe it's not too far off from the exciting, rewarding world of cosmetology! So remember, it is spelled cosmetology, not cosmotology.
