Idaho Board of Cosmetology License Information
Last Updated: December 27, 2012
In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, esthetics or nail technology in the state of Idaho, students must complete the requirements listed below from the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology. When getting an Idaho cosmetology license or other beauty practitioner certification, you must attend a licensed school and complete the state of Idaho's minimum required training hours and then take the state's cosmetology board exams. After finishing your training, you are required to pass a licensing exam issued by the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology. Once you pass this exam, you will receive your Idaho cosmetology license shortly thereafter. You're now able to work in the state of Idaho. Keep in mind, even though Idaho may not require continuing education to renew some licenses, you may wish to consider taking cosmetology continuing education hours in Idaho annually to stay current on the latest trends. For specific questions, please contact the ID Board of Cosmetology directly for more information. The state of ID does allow apprenticeship to get your training hours for some of the beauty profession licenses, see below. ID allows you to take the cosmetology exam in English only.

Cosmetology License Reciprocity (Transfer) in Idaho
Idaho does not do licensure through reciprocity. In order to transfer your cosmetology license to Idaho and be eligible for licensure by endorsement, you must show that you have had an active license in your home state for 3 of the last 5 years, meet Idaho training requirements, show that you've taken a practical and written exam, qualify for endorsement, be at least 16 1/2 years old and a 10th grade education. If you do not meet these transfer requirements, you must take Idaho's cosmetology exam and you may be required to take additional training hours to meet Idaho's minimum. Work experience counts at a rate of 200 credit hours per year of real-life work experience. The transfer fee is $85.
