Kentucky State Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists License Information
In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, esthetics or nail
technology in the state of Kentucky, students must complete the
requirements listed below. Please contact the Kentucky State Board of
Hairdressers and Cosmetologists for more information.
Requirements
The Kentucky State Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists shall issue
a license to any person who meets the following requirements:
Apprentice Cosmetologist/Cosmetologist:
- 1,800 hours
- 10th grade education
Nail Technician:
- 600 hours
- 10th grade education
Esthetician:
- 1,000 hours
- 12th grade education
Apprentice Instructor/Instructor:
- 1,000 hours
- 12th grade education
Additional Requirements
In addition, applicants are required to pass an examination prescribed
by the board to determine fitness to practice and paid the appropriate
fees.
Reciprocity
Any applicant from out-of-state who holds a valid cosmetologist or
esthetician license and can show proof of 2 years' current experience,
may come before the state board for examination (practical only).
Applicants must pay the out-of-state examination fee and the license
fee.
