In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, esthetics or nail technology in the state of Kentucky, students must complete the requirements listed below from the Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology. When getting a Kentucky cosmetology license or other beauty practitioner certification, you must attend a licensed school and complete the state of Kentucky's minimum required training hours and then take the state's cosmetology board exams. After finishing your training, you are required to pass a licensing exam issued by the Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology. Once you pass this exam, you will receive your Kentucky cosmetology license shortly thereafter. You're now able to work in the state of Kentucky. Keep in mind, even though Kentucky may not require continuing education to renew some licenses, you may wish to consider taking cosmetology continuing education hours in Kentucky annually to stay current on the latest trends. Kentucky Board of Cosmetology License Requirements
- COSMETOLOGIST LICENSE: 1800 Hours
- BARBER LICENSE: 1500 Hours
- NAIL TECHNICIAN LICENSE: 600 Hours
- ESTHETICIAN LICENSE: 1000 Hours
- COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTOR LICENSE: 1000 Hours + Cosmetology License
Kentucky Cosmetology License Renewal
Cosmetology licenses in Kentucky must be renewed every year between July 1 and July 31. The average cost of cosmetology license renewals is $20. Currently, no continuing education hours are required to renew your cosmetology license in Kentucky, but CEUs are always recommended to stay current in the industry.
Cosmetology License Reciprocity (Transfer) in Kentucky
Kentucky currently does not have cosmetology license reciprocity. Any applicant from out-of-state who must have their board send the proper state certificate, and then the applicant can print out the application online and submit it. You may be required to take the Kentucky written or practical board exams. Applicants must pay the out-of-state examination fee and the license fee.
