Michigan State Board of Cosmetology License Information
In order to obtain a Michigan cosmetology license in cosmetology, nail technology, esthetics, barbering, or electrology from the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology, students must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology for more information.

Michigan State Board Requirements
COSMETOLOGIST: 1500 hours
ESTHETICS: 400 hours
NAIL TECHNICIAN: 400 hours
ELECTROLOGY: 300 hours
BARBERING: 1750 hours

Additional Requirements for a Michigan Cosmetology License
All applicants must be at least 17 years of age and have a minimum level of education equivalent to the 9th grade in order to obtain a Michigan cosmetology license.

Michigan State Board Reciprocity
All individuals licensed in another state may obtain their license in the state of Michigan from the Michigan board of cosmetology by making an application to the board and meeting the requirements of 17 years of age and a 9th grade education. No examination is required. For those individuals whose states have requirements less than those in Michigan a credit of 100 hours per every 6 months work experience will be awarded.
