Michigan State Board of Cosmetology License Information
In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, nail technology,
esthetics, barbering, or electrology in the state of Michigan, students
must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the
Michigan Board of Cosmetology for more information.
Additional Requirements All applicants must be at least 17 years of age and have a minimum level of education equivalent to the 9th grade.
Reciprocity All
individuals licensed in another state may obtain their license in the
state of Michigan by making an application to the board and meeting the
requirements of 17 years of age and a 9th grade education. No
examination is required. For those individuals whose states have
requirements less than those in Michigan a credit of 100 hours per
every 6 months work experience will be awarded.
