Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology License Information
In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, aesthetics or manicuring in the state of Tennessee, students must complete the requirements listed below. Please contact the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology for more information.
Requirements
The Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology shall issue a license to any person who meets the following requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Pass a written and practical examination is required
- Complete the required course hours in the practice and theory at a school of cosmetology
Required classroom training:
COSMETOLOGY: 1500 hours
ESTHETICS: 750 hours
NAIL TECHNOLOGY: 600 hours
Reciprocity
The Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology requires applicants with out-of-state licenses to meet the minimum required classroom training hours. If you are licensed but do not meet the required classroom hours and cannot provide a 5-year work history, you will need to submit your application for reciprocity to the board office.
