Bellus Academy | Manhattan, KS was founded in 2005 as the American Academy of Cosmetology & Massage Therapy. In 2011, this Academy was chosen to be a part of the elite Bellus Academy family of schools because of its professionalism, respect in the industry and high educational standards.

Our Programs:

Cosmetology

Our customized cosmetology training is one of the most comprehensive course in the nation and includes professional training in all aspects of the beauty industry. Our dynamic instructors continue to evolve with the industries hottest trends and pass their insight and connections along to their students. We deliver an unsurpassed cosmetology education by incorporating The S.T.A.R. Precision Haircutting System Curriculum with our innovative styling and finishing techniques. This precision haircutting system is designed to give the best foundation in the art of haircutting. S.T.A.R. is the only haircutting system that evolves as the student's technical skills and creativity become stronger, providing support to nurture the novice to the master stylist. The S.T.A.R. iPhone and iPad apps allow you to learn anytime, anywhere by watching all the videos on your mobile device or computer

Upon completion of the course, you will have acquired the technical abilities and the academic theories in compliance with the Kansas Board of Cosmetology requirements and the needed skills to begin a rewarding and successful career. Massage Therapy

Our integrative 840-hour curriculum is presented in a supportive, hands-on learning environment focusing on teaching healing and awareness of the mind and body. Throughout the massage therapy program at the Bellus Academy our devoted and knowledgeable staff will guide each individual student in the process of achieving excellence, proficiency, and competence in massage therapy techniques, theory and practices, anatomy and physiology, pathology, aromatherapy, nutrition, business practices, assessment, referral, quality of touch, and personal awareness necessary for the effective and successful practice of massage therapy. As a student at our massage academy the majority of your education will be hands-on, learning to perform entry-level massage using Swedish massage technique as well as several other modalities.

Esthetics

Esthetics is primarily a hands-on business, the majority of your education will be devoted to techniques that give you an advantage in today's fast growing skin care market. This covers all components of the facial process. These components include, but are not limited to: skin analysis, cleansing, exfoliation, Alpha Hydroxy acids, facial massage, deep pore cleansing, use of the latest industry-specific equipment, masks, specialized treatments for specific skin problems, and product knowledge. In addition to facials, practical classes also cover waxing and various other treatments for eyes, the back and hands.

Modules of study are also devoted to make-up artistry and to the theoretical principles that the practice of esthetics is based on. Theory classes include anatomy and physiology of the human body, an in-depth study of the skin, Basic Chemistry as applied to Product Ingredients and Composition, Nutrition, Sales, Salon Business, Microbiology, Sanitation, and Disorders of the Skin. Although many students enjoy the hands-on aspect of esthetic study, the fundamentals that support the practice are essential.

Additionally, students enrolled at Bellus Academy are trained in the latest industry-specific equipment including micro-dermabrasion (Derma-Pod technology), photo-rejuvenation and light therapy (Soli-Tone infinite energy) and multi-function facial machines that include high frequency current, galvanic current, magna lamps, steamers, vacuums, rotary brushes and more.

Our mission and educational objectives of our training programs are:

• To produce graduates who are successful and remain in careers in cosmetology arts and sciences, the massage field, and/or related fields.
• To constantly update programs so graduates can remain competitive in their chosen field.
• To promote the continuing educational growth of the faculty, using current teaching methods and techniques.
• To prepare the student to successfully pass the state exam (when required) for entry level employment - or - to prepare the student to be successfully certified by the academy (when state exam is not applicable).
• To provide advanced education and placement services.
