Learn From the Professionals
CRU Institute requires it's instructors to have current and ongoing professional experience in salons- behind the chair. They are intimately familiar with all areas of the cosmetology and barbering industry, and are required to complete continuing professional education. We also utilize industry leading guest instructors, artists and salon professionals and this coupled with the enthusiastic support of our instructors will allow you to gain the career training, skill level, and motivation needed to be successful. CRU Institute has a nearly 100% success rate in training our students to pass the required state exam needed to be licensed. In addition, our students receive extensive hands on practical training on real clients which gives our students the real life skills needed to become successful in their chosen field of study. These factors, along with our commitment to providing each student with individual attention, combine to make this campus a premier school in which to turn your passion into a career.
Cosmetology & Barbering
For those students interested in cosmetology and barbering we offer comprehensive theory instruction, extensive training in hair styling, coloring techniques, bleaching, and cutting. The cosmetology course consists of 1600 hours and the barbering course consists of 1500 hours; each program includes lectures, demonstrations, classroom participation, and practical examination. Practical operation consists of actual performance by the students on another person or mannequin. Our students learn the proper use of implements relative to their chosen program, acquire the knowledge of analyzing the scalp, face and hands prior to all services, learn the procedures and terminology used in performing all services, acquire salon and barber shop business management techniques
Makeup & Crossover
Additionally, to assist our cosmetology and barbering students to become more marketable we are providing a free 64-hour makeup course, taught by our certified MAC makeup instructor (offered free for a limited time, makeup kit included in the cosmetology and barbering kits). Students will learn the proper application of daytime and evening makeup, wedding, and event makeup, and the latest trends in fashion and runway makeup applications.
CRU institute is one of the few schools that offers a crossover program for any licensed cosmetologist to sign up for an additional 400 hours and receive their barber license as well. CRU Cosmetology students have the option to add the additional 400 hours after they have completed their 1600-hour cosmetology course, to get their barber license. Please call our office to learn about possible financial aid options for the crossover program.
