About Us

The adult education Cosmetology program prepares adult students to become licensed in the state of Ohio to work in the area of hair, skin and/or nail care. The program complies with the requirements of the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology, in conjunction with the standards of the Ohio Department of Education. This course is a 1,500 hour part-time evening program of classroom instruction and clinical experience.

The cosmetologist performs a wide range of tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills, along with demonstrated creativity and artistic talents. Some specific tasks cosmetologists may perform include hairstyling, haircutting, hair coloring or lightening, manicuring, pedicuring, facial services, and other salon services.

The course meets Monday through Thursday evenings from 3:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Program requirements: A candidate must be at least 16 years of age with a minimum of a tenth grade education or GED.

Certification: Upon successful completion of this 1,500 hour course, students will be eligible to take the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology licensing exam.

Cuyahoga Valley Career Center has been successful in training individuals who have found rewarding positions in the cosmetology profession. Program graduates have a 100 percent pass rate for the State Board licensing.

Financial Aid and Veterans Benefits are available to those who qualify. A payment plan is available.

Cosmetology Program

"Your appointment is confirmed for the full treatment in our salon ... shampoo, cut, color, perm, style, manicure, pedicure and facial!" Customer service is key to becoming a great cosmetologist, but so are the techniques for providing proper personal care to hair, skin and nails. You'll practice your skills on mannequins, classmates and outside customers in our professional salon.

CERTIFICATION

Qualifying students have the opportunity to sit for the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology State licensing exam.

Meet Your Instructor, Sherri Vilagi

Sherri Vilagi has been in the professional beauty industry for over 25 years. She is an artist of many talents, as shown by her credentials, and a salon owner and industry educator. She has taught classes in beauty schools and career/technical education centers all over Ohio. Sherri has an Associate degree in Applied Science, is a licensed managing cosmetologist and a state of Ohio certified cosmetology instructor. She also has certifications as a lash extensionist, as well as a permanent makeup artist. Sherri enjoys teaching at the adult education level and providing her students with real-life examples of salon experience.
