About Us

The Douglas J. Aveda Institute, located in Knoxville, Tenn., provides hands-on cosmetology training in a modern facility. Our school's professional instructors focus on building the foundation students need to become beauty artists and professionals in an environment designed to help build their individual creativity.

The Douglas J. Aveda Institute follows the Aveda philosophy, "education is more than learning technical skills - it is about growing as an individual." We focus on teaching students the most modern techniques and thought processes, along with hosting fun events such as competitions, fashion shows and community volunteer opportunities to help students build their resumes.

Cosmetology Program

We offer a creative and unique Cosmetology program. During the 1,500-hour program, students explore the latest styles and techniques in hair cutting and styling, skin care, nail care, and makeup.
Classes are mixed between demonstrations, lectures and hands-on experience in our new, fully equipped clinics. Clinical studies not only give students the opportunity to grow individually as an artist, but also the opportunity to work in collaboration with colleagues.

Esthiology Program

Our Esthiology program explores international trends in techniques to purify, balance and renew skin, along with makeup application. This program teaches students the foundation needed to be a skin care professional, including how to perform facials, hair removal, body treatments, makeup application and other skin care treatments.
