Mission
At GCC @ Cookeville, our mission is to attract
qualified students, instruct them with quality
education and training, and provide them
with placement assistance in their careers
as cosmetologists, manicurists, estheticians
and cosmetology instructors.
Educational Objectives
GCC @ Cookeville is dedicated to educating
quality cosmetologists, manicurists, estheticians
and cosmetology instructors and producing
graduates who are able to meet both the
present and future demands of the beauty
industry. Each student admitted to GCC @
Cookeville receives not only individualized
instruction and exposure to technical skills
and equipment, but also adequate opportunities
for supervised work with the public. Each
program offered by GCC @ Cookeville is designed
to provide a sound educational basis and
maximize the employability of its graduates.
Facilities
The facility consists of a reception area,
clinic floor, offices, classrooms, dispensary
and break room. The clinic area consists
of workstations where students practice
on customers under the direct supervision
of an instructor. The theory classrooms
consist of visual aids, such as charts,
a video library and chalkboards, to aid
students in learning the theory of cosmetology.
In an effort to maintain a quality training
program, the school is constantly improving
and updating its facility to meet the criteria
of a modern, up-to-date cosmetology school.
Programs
Cosmetology
The Cosmetology course covers a period of
ten (10) to twelve (12) months for full-time
attendance. Full-time students attend school
approximately 35 to 40 hours per week.
This
course covers a study of the basic principles
of cosmetology, including a basic understanding
of the chemistry of the skin and hair, as
well as practical applications. The Cosmetology
course is a well-rounded program covering
all phases of cosmetology and prepares the
student for a career as a Licensed Cosmetologist
or a related position. The approach to training
used by the school is based on sound educational
methods and teaching fundamentals. .
Nail Technology
The Nail Technology course is approximately
five (5) to six (6) months for full-time
attendance. Full-time students attend 35
to 40 hours per week.
This course covers a study of the basic
principles of manicuring, including a basic
understanding of the hands and feet, as
well as the practical application of artificial
nails. The Nail Technology program prepares
students with the necessary manicure and
pedicure skills necessary for employment
in a beauty salon or a nail shop. The course
is a well-rounded program covering all phases
of manicures, pedicures and artificial nails
and prepares the student for a career as
a Licensed Nail Technician or a related
position. Training includes lectures, hands-on
demonstrations and student participation.
Instructor Trainee
The Instructor Training course is a study
of the teaching techniques required of Licensed
Cosmetologists to become effective instructors.
Areas covered in this course include the
development of lesson plans, teaching techniques
(practical and theory), motivation skills,
class schedules and student counseling.
Esthetician
The Esthetician course is approximately
30 weeks; however, the actual time taken
to finish depends on each individual student's
ability to attain these hours in a timely
manner. Full-time attendance is 32 hours
per week. It should take the student approximately
seven (7) to eight (8) months to complete
the course.
The Esthetician course is a well-rounded
program covering all phases of esthetics
and preparing the student for a career as
a Licensed Esthetician or a related position.
Esthetics is an expanding field, and the
graduate will learn about massaging, cleansing,
manipulating, exercising and beautifying
all facial skin types. As a Licensed Esthetician,
you will be able to choose from a wide range
of career opportunities that can be both
lucrative and personally fulfilling. The
program combines both theory and hands-on
instruction, concentrating on learning techniques
as well as client interaction.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is available to those who
qualify.
- Federal Pell
Grant Program: The Pell provides
need-based grants to low-income undergraduate
and certain postbaccalaureate students
to promote access to postsecondary education.
- Federal Family
Education Loan Program (FFEL):
FFEL includes four components: Stafford
Loan, Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, PLUS
(Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students)
Loan and Consolidation Loan.
