Purpose
The ultimate objective to be attained during each course at the Joe Blasco Make-up Centers West and East is for each student to acquire total application knowledge and the manual ability necessary to perform all techniques taught.

The student's occupational goal is to become a Make-up artist. The schools offer placement assistance but do not guarantee placement.

Mr. Blasco travels the world as a guest lecturer and consultant on the art of natural beauty Make-up and special Make-up effects for film, television, and live theater. He has appeared on many talk shows and has been interviewed by news and entertainment reporters for all three major networks and for numerous local and regional television shows throughout the USA and abroad.

Orlando Facility
The spacious classrooms in the Joe Blasco Make-up Center East are designed to duplicate the actual environment of major film and television studio make-up departments. These learning areas are open, spacious, comfortable, professionally mirrored, lighted, and shadow-free environments that permit the student to work at maximum efficiency without distraction.

Professional Make-up Artistry Course
The following outline describes the Professional Make-up Artistry Program and its components. Beauty, Old Age, Bald Cap, Hairwork, Character, Monster, and Prosthetics may also be taken individually (see "Entrance Requirements and Enrollment"). All phases together constitute the Professional Make-up Artistry Program.

  1. Beauty Make-up Female and male corrective Make-up for all media.
  2. Old Age Make-up Theory of old age Make-up for motion picture, television, and theatrical (stage)
  3. Bald Cap
  4. Hairwork (Beard, Facial Hair)
  5. Character Make-up (Injury Simulation)
  6. Make-up Production (Career Development)
  7. Monster Make-up
  8. Prosthetic Make-up
  9. Final Review and Examination

Beauty Make-up Artistry Program
Takes the student through all phases of beauty and corrective beauty Make-up for motion picture, television, theatrical, and society. Includes Classic Beauty, Classic Glamour Beauty, Natural High Fashion, Fantasy Beauty, and male corrective Make-up theory and application.

  2. Sanitization And Hygiene Of Station And Equipment
  3. Base Selection And Application
  4. Shading And Highlighting Application
  5. Eye Make-up Application
  6. Lip Color Application
  7. Fantasy Make-up Application

Advanced Prosthetic Make-up Program

  1. Prosthetic Design
    • Prosthetic design rendering and mechanical effects
    • Psychological preparation of the subject for facial impression

  2. Sculpturing Techniques
    • Advanced sculpturing techniques on the positive cast
    • Sculpturing on isolated piece casts

  3. Positive And Negative Molds

    • Construction of a complete one-piece head (bust) impression
    • Construction of a full head positive cast
    • Construction of full arm and feet positive and negative molds
    • Duplicator casts from positive molds
    • Isolated casts from duplicator molds (piece casts)
    • Finishing and refining the positive cast surface
    • Negative molds of a sculpture
    • Techniques of cleaning clay from negative and positive casts
    • Taking dental impressions and creating dental positives
    • Working with acrylic dental materials

  4. Foaming Techniques

    • Familiarization with foam latex compound
    • Preparation of cast for foaming
    • Introducing foam rubber into molds
    • Mold and foam curing
    • Techniques to strip appliance from a mold

  5. Coloring Techniques

    • Intrinsic color techniques
    • Extrinsic color techniques

  6. Application Of Prosthetic Pieces

    • Application of the appliance to the skin
    • Manufacture and application of sub-appliance bladders (for swelling effects)
    • Fastening lace hair pieces to foam rubber appliances
