Loraine's Academy, Inc. is a private school specializing in vocational training in Cosmetology and related arts and sciences. We're located in Tyrone Gardens Shopping Center, at the intersection of 9th Avenue North, 58th Street N, and Tyrone Boulevard, one of the most active centers in suburban St. Petersburg... connected by major highways to Clearwater, Sarasota, and Tampa...and serviced by public transportation. We were a finalist in the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year competition.

Over the years, the school facility has expanded and we now have over 12,000 square feet of classrooms, clinic and offices, including the new LA Spa. The LA Spa Training Center is next door to the main school and houses the skin and massage departments in a serene spa environment. Every station in the Cosmetology clinic or laboratory area features new hydraulic styling chairs and power for irons and dryers. Other rooms house a dozen vented manicure stations, a multi-bed skincare classroom/clinic, a waxing center, adjustable pedicure stations and a lighted makeup center, as well as a photography studio for students to begin building their portfolios. We have a large and well-equipped library/study hall/conference room facility, a dispensary, student lounge and locker room with refrigerator, microwave, and snack machines.

Skincare training includes body wrapping and use of salon-quality facial machines including Microdermabrasion and LED Light treatment. Massage Training features small classes with instructors who specialize in various massage modalities. The LA Spa Training Center, which opened in 2011 adjacent to the main building, houses the skin and massage departments.

Educational Objectives

Our mission is to produce well-rounded, professional graduates, as well as technically competent Cosmetologists, Massage Therapists and Specialists.

Owners, management, staff and instructors are really the most important aspect of any school because they create the learning environment. At LA, you are not left to figure it out on your own. We use the latest equipment, thoroughly teach both basic and advanced subject matter, and find ways to make it easy and fun to learn. Then you practice on lots of real people. The success of our students is the result of our dedicated staff and effective educational systems.

Programs

COSMETOLOGY
Our training qualifies you to become a Cosmetologist, Hair Stylist, Designer, or Beautician which includes Cutting, Coloring, Perming and Introduction to Nails and Facials. We feature complete full-service training, both basic and advanced, a large and active clinic for supervised experience with the public, an intensive basic training program, and an extensive library featuring a full selection of current periodicals, books, and DVDs on every subject from hair extensions to ethnic cuts, including current styling updates. You learn through a unit by unit approach...Studying styling then practicing on the student salon, before adding a Haircutting unit, followed one by one by Color, Permanent Waving/Relaxing, then Skin and Nails. There are four Cosmetology programs to choose from: Cosmetology (1200 hr), Cosmetology w/Facials (1500 hr), Cosmetology w/Nails (1500 hr) and Cosmetology w/Bootcamp (1350 hr).

NAIL TECH
This 300 hour program is one of the quickest ways to enter the cosmetology field. We start with manicures and pedicures as well as gel polish and spa techniques, followed closely by nail extensions of all types (gels, fiberglass, and sculpted pink and white acrylics as well as tips with overlay, focusing on both theory and practical application. The alternatives to this program are Cosmetology w/Nails or the Full Specialist Program, which combines nails and facials

FACIAL SPECIALIST
This 300 hour program starts with skin analysis and basic facial techniques, followed by treatment facials and machine applications, microdermabrasion, makeup, waxing, and product knowledge. Loraine's offers a large Skincare Training Center, complete with seven hydraulic facial beds, the latest machines and products used in many fine salons. It also houses a private Waxing Center, a lighted makeup center, and a body wrap room with shower. Other related choices include Clinical Skin Care, Massage w/Facial, Cosmetology w/Facial or Full Specialist.

CLINICAL SKIN CARE
600 hour training in Medical Esthetics, i.e. Advanced Microdermabrasion, Chemical Peels, Facial Lymphatic Drainage, Camouflage Makeup, Acne Treatment, Spa Techniques, Pre and Post Surgical Treatments, Hormones and Medical Terminology & Working with Doctors.) Options are Facial Specialist , Full Specialist, Massage with Facial or Cosmetology w/Facial.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
600 hours. The program covers an extensive list of subjects including Neuromuscular Masage, Spa Services and other specialized massage techniques in both theory and practical work. Students start by learning muscles and application of various massage techniques then move to full body clinical experiences. An option is the crossover program Massage w/Facial.

MASSAGE w/FACIAL
900 hours. The program covers an extensive list of subjects including Neuromuscular Masage, Spa Services and other specialized massage techniques in both theory and practical work. Students start by learning muscles and application of various massage techniques then move to full body clinical experiences. Options are Therapeutic Massage, Facial Specialist or Clinical Skin Care.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
600 hours of classes, projects and hands-on guided experience in the skills of teaching students in your field of expertise, whether it be Hair, Skin, Nails or Massage. No Instructor license is required in Florida, but Instructor Training is strongly preferred in hiring as salon experience seldom adequately prepares a person to instruct.

FULL SPECIALIST
This program is an exact combination of the Nail Tech and Facial Specialist Programs. As with many of our programs, scheduling is flexible to meet a student's needs.
