Merrell University of Beauty Arts and Science
is a post secondary school providing education
in arts and sciences of cosmetology and
esthetics. The school is dedicated to "professional
excellence" enabling our graduates to be
highly competitive in the job market. Our
Instructors are licensed by the Missouri
State Board of Cosmetology and continuously
keep abreast with the new trends and products
through educational seminars and workshops.

Courses
Offered
At Merrell University the students learn
by observing demonstrations, audio-visual
aids, attending lectures on a wide range
of subjects, and with actual hands-on practical
techniques. We are a Pivot Point Member
School - an exclusive and internationally
acclaimed educational system which we are
proud to provide to our students.
Cosmetology,
Hairdressing & Manicuring Course
The University offers a complete course
in cosmetology, hairdressing and manicuring.
The content of the course is taught over
a period of 12 months (approximately 50
weeks), 30 hours per week. Upon completion
of the course, the student will have acquired
the technical abilities and academic theories
that enable them to meet the requirements
of the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology
for licensure, get an entry level job, perform
cosmetology services offered in a full service
salon, and be able to earn a living.
COURSE OBJETIVES: Upon the completion of
the course, the student will have acquired
the technical abilities and academic theories
in compliance with requirements of the Missouri
State Board of Cosmetology and will have:
- The ability to perform the cosmetology
services offered in a full service salon;
- The ability to use professional products
correctly and in a safe manner;
- The ability to analyze and test the
quality and condition of the hair, skin,
and nails for the safety and correct selection
of the product or service;
- The fundamental knowledge to manage
a cosmetology salon after a reasonable
amount of experience as an observant employee;
and
- The privilege of entering an industry
that has no limits to the opportunities
available to those who have the ambition
and desire to achieve.
Instructor Training
Course
Instructor Training is a course of study
and educational discipline to prepare a
licensed cosmetologist to become a qualified
instructor in a licensed school of cosmetology.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon the completion of
this course the student will have acquired
the ability to pass the State Board of Cosmetology
examination, become a licensed instructor,
and have the capability to:
- Supervise the clinic floor;
- Construct lesson plans;
- Teach different subjects in the professional
field; and
- Manage a cosmetology school.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS: Instructor trainees
observe, plan, prepare, present and evaluate.
Effective teaching skills are gained through
working with licensed instructors and counseling
sessions.
Manicuring Course
This course of study includes all phases
of manicuring, as well as the study of and
application of artificial and sculptured
nails. The course includes history, contemporary
methods, techniques, and products and chemicals
used by the manicurist/nail technician in
salon services.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the
course, the student will have met the Missouri
State Board requirements to take the examination
for a license to practice the art of manicuring
and will have:
- The ability to perform manicure and
pedicure services in a professional salon;
- The ability to use professional chemical
products correctly for the safety of the
consumer;
- Knowledge of basic salon business,
professional ethics, and state law. Instructional
Methods: A combination of audio-visual,
classroom demonstrations, participation
sessions, lectures, product guest artists,
and supervised clinic experiences are
used throughout training.
Esthetics Course
This is a course of study in the practice
and theories of Esthetics. The course covers
a period of approximately 40 weeks. The
units of study and the completion requirements
exceed those required by the Missouri State
Board of Cosmetology.
CIDESCO
Merrell University is now a qualified Comite
International Desthetique Et De Cosmetologie
(CIDESCO) International School and is among
the top five located in the United States
and one of just over two hundred in the
world. CIDESCO is the world's major international
beauty therapy association.
Financial Aid
Financial Aid is available to those who
qualify.
