Miller-Motte Technical College (Wilmington
campus) is located in the heart of New Hanover
County at 5000 Market Street in Wilmington,
NC. The facilities provide classrooms, laboratories,
library, student lounge, and offices in
an attractive, fully furnished and air-conditioned
setting.
Cosmetology
The cosmetology program is designed to provide
competency-based knowledge, scientific/art
principles, and hands-on fundamentals associated
with the cosmetology industry. Miller-Motte's
advanced approach provides a simulated salon
environment which enables students to develop
manipulative skills and knowledge that can
lead to an entry-level career in the field
of Cosmetology.
Miller-Motte Technical College is a member
school of Pivot Point International. Pivot
Point is the largest cosmetology educational
system in the world, with member schools
in fifty-two countries. Being a part of
this system enables the College to show
the practical application of ideas so students
can complete their educations "salon-ready."
The Pivot Point philosophy of hair sculpture
and design, color and perming, as well as
nails and skin, is taught throughout the
program.
Upon completion of the program, the student
will be prepared to take the North Carolina
State Board licensing examination. Employment
opportunities may include beauty salon,
spas, and other related businesses as a
stylist, salon manager or owner, color specialist,
skin or nail specialist, educator, platform
or makeup artist, manufacturer's representative,
cosmetic salesperson, and more.
Cosmetology Instructor
Cosmetology Instructor is a
progressive course with emphasis on teaching
and learning styles, course/curriculum development,
evaluation methods as well as other topics.
The objective is to give the student the
knowledge necessary to teach and advise
students on hair, skin, and nails. Upon
successful completion of this program, the
graduate will receive a certificate, and
is prepared for an entry-level position
as a Cosmetology Instructor. Graduates of
this program are eligible to sit for the
North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art
licensure Examination.
Esthetics Technology
The program objective is to
give the student the knowledge necessary
to develop manipulative skills for entry
level into the Esthetics profession and
to help prepare graduates to qualify to
sit for the North Carolina State Board licensing
examination. Course work includes instruction
in professional development, bacteriology,
sanitation and disinfection, skin structure,
diseases and disorders, facials, aromatherapy,
body treatments, microdermabrasion, various
phases of Esthetics technology, business/computer
principles, product knowledge, and other
selected topics.
Upon successful completion of the North
Carolina State Board licensing exam, graduates
will be issued a license by the North Carolina
State Board. Employment opportunities include
beauty salons, spas, dermatology offices
and other related businesses as an esthetician,
skin specialist, educator, platform artist,
manufacturer's representative, facial product
salesperson, and more.
