About Us
Minnesota School of Cosmetology's Plymouth location provides the student with a natural sense of artistry the opportunity to turn that style into a promising career in cosmetology. With a 50-year background in cosmetology-specific training, and esteemed instructors, MSC works to help you develop into an experienced cosmetologist.
Minnesota School of Cosmetology has a 60 year history, beginning with its days as Minnesota Cosmetology Education Center, in providing excellent training. Minnesota Cosmetology Education Center, established in 1950, in a converted home was purchased and revamped in 1988. The new curriculum provided comprehensive preparation for the salon industry, including not only cosmetology, but also sales, communication, and fashion. In 2003, Minnesota Cosmetology Education Center was acquired by Terry and Kaye Myhre, who renamed the institution Minnesota School of Cosmetology, and moved the facility from South Saint Paul, to a new location in, Woodbury.

Our mission is to educate, motivate and prepare our students for careers in cosmetology arts and sciences.
Cosmetology program at the Plymouth Location
We offer a course in cosmetology, the art and science of beauty care. It involves the care of the skin, hair, scalp and nails. Students receive classes in theory, including basic scientific knowledge of chemistry, anatomy, physiology, hair cutting, hair styling, permanent waving, hair coloring, manicuring, facials, pin curling, roller placement, and salon management. Practical classes are also given prior to clinic floor training. Finally, students receive extensive opportunities to work on outside clients in a salon setting.
After successfully completing our program and passing the state board examination, the newly licensed cosmetologist, is prepared for a variety of career options, including manager- operator, nail technician,cosmetic technician, competition or platform stylist, salon owner, or school instructor. This program is designed to prepare students to stay abreast of current trends in the field of cosmetology.
Instruction provides applied scientific and clinical skills training in the following:
- Shampooing
- Scalp and hair conditioning
- Hair design and shaping
- Chemical Hair Control
- Hair coloring
- Hair Styling
- Facials and makeup
- Manicures
The cosmetology program also includes instruction and pre-clinical training skills in cosmetology-related sciences, business and salon management, and safety and sanitation.

Available space, facilities and equipment
Our school provides the spaces and equipment a student needs to complete the course in cosmetology: good lighting, hydraulic chairs, central air conditioning, separate working stations, student lunch room, student lockers, separate classroom area and a dispensary.
Academic advising
The staff provides academic advising for all students on a regular basis to discuss student concerns, progress, and grades.
Career Advising and job-search assistance
All students are encouraged to visit our career center to review job listings and obtain career advice by our staff. The school will assist any student or graduate with the job-search process.
