PHD Academy receives requests for graduates
from salons up to 90 miles away because
employers know that students who graduate
from PHD Academy have an edge. Students
participate in off-campus educational events
throughout the year, and trade shows and
other classes put on by industry leaders
such as Paul Mitchell, Nexxus, and Matrix
help round out the students' learning experience.
PHD Academy students also benefit from extensive
practical exposure. Throughout their training

skills and techniques on a diversified clinic

The PHD Academy campus consists of:
- Cosmetology clinic floor with:
- 36 styling stations a
- makeup center
- a manicure room with six stations
- one large dispensary
- one pedicure room with two pedi-spa
units
- and four crossover rooms for massage
therapy and skin care
- Hydrotherapy room complete with:
- hydrotherapy tub
- vichy shower
- standard shower
- Four large classrooms
- Student breakroom with lockers
- Instructors' lounge and instructors'
center

Professional Hair Design Academy is licensed
by the Wisconsin Department of Regulation
and Licensing and accredited by the National
Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts
and Sciences (NACCAS).
Financial Aid
Professional Hair Design Academy
participates through the US Department of
Education with Pell Grants and Student Loan
Programs. Financial aid applications are
available through the financial aid office
at PHD Academy. Students may come in for
a free financial aid consultation prior
to enrolling to determine the amount of
financial aid they may be eligible for.
Financial aid is available for those who
qualify.
Programs
Cosmetology
Course
Academy's Cosmetology Instructional staff
is made up of state-licensed Cosmetology
Instructors. All have experience in the
field, including salon ownership. To keep
up with the latest trends and instructional
methods, instructors at Professional Hair
Design Academy attend advanced education
on a regular basis. In addition, guest speakers
from all facets of the cosmetology industry
keep the education fresh and relevant to
current market trends.
The Cosmetology Course includes training
in these areas:
- Basic and advanced haircutting methods
- Permanent waving and chemical hair
relaxing
- Basic and advanced coloring and highlighting
techniques
- Special occasion hairstyling
- Manicuring, pedicuring and acrylic
nails
- Make-up artistry
- Facials, waxing and ear piercing
- Scalp treatments and massage
- Product knowledge and retailing
- Salon business, including salon ownership
- Employment skills
The Cosmetology Course lasts approximately
50 weeks and is offered four times per year,
thereby eliminating any "waiting list."
Classes begin in January, April, July and
September. Upon completion of the required
hours, the students will receive a diploma
from PHD Academy that will allow them to
take the State Board Exam for licensure.
Brush-Up Course
Professional Hair Design Academy also offers
customized "Brush-up" courses for individuals
who have been out of school for an extended
period of time and not yet obtained licensure
and to licensed people who wish to re-enter
the work force to update their professional
skills.
Nail Tech Course
A practicing Nail Technician, who is also
a licensed Cosmetology Instructor, teaches
the Nail Tech Course. PHD Academy understands
that hands-on training is the most effective
means of instruction. Therefore, students
have the opportunity to practice the skills
they learn in the classroom, preparing them
for an entry-level position as a Nail Tech.
The Nail Tech Course includes training in
these areas:
- Manicuring
- Pedicuring
- Acrylic Nails
- Fiberglass Wraps
- Gel Nails
- Nail Art
- Marketing
- Product Knowledge/Retailing
- Salon Business(including salon ownership)
- Employment Skills
Nail Tech is offered twice a year, usually
in the spring and fall. The course lasts
approximately 20 weeks. Please contact us

Cosmetology Instructor
Course
The instructor training course of study
is designed to prepare future instructors
for the state licensing examination and
for profitable employment as a Cosmetology
Instructor.

Applicants for the instructor course must
meet the Admissions Requirements and hold
a current Wisconsin Cosmetologist/Barber
