According to the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences, cosmetology is defined as "the field that deals with beautification of the hair, skin and nails."
The beauty of being a Cosmetologist
Your daily job will not only consist of hairdressing, haircutting, manicuring, facials and other skin-related treatments, but will involve working with people as clients, not just as customers. Your clients are the ones who pay you and may ultimately make you become financially independent. Getting to know the clients - that is, their personalities and interests, is not only exciting, but the key to being able to sell them the right services that make them look and feel good.
Making your client confident about their appearance undoubtedly makes you feel more confident about your skills when the clients return. And don't forget, if you do quality service you will earn the respect necessary to be referred to additional clients.
Trends and potentials as a Cosmetologist
Beauty is big business. More leisure time, bigger incomes, and an increase in working women have contributed to the tremendous growth of the beauty industry. The beauty business offers more opportunities in job diversification than most trades or professions. Job opportunities for cosmetologists will increase in the next few years, and competition will be relatively mild in all areas. Employers say there is currently a lack of qualified applicants. Becoming a Cosmetologist opens doors in all kinds of directions. You can be working in a salon, spa, hotel, hospital, cruise ship, the opera, own your own salon, become a make-up artist, a teacher; the list is endless.
In addition to our Panorama City location, Western Beauty Institute also has a campus in Lancaster, CA. Use the following link to easily request information from our Lancaster location.
