Welcome
During the 1980s, Gene Cardamone (founder
of Shear Ego Salon and Spa) found it increasingly
challenging to staff his four salons with
well-skilled, creative stylists. His perpetual
desire to improve the hair industry propelled
Gene to implement a training program that,
among other things, required young stylists
to shadow and assist an established Shear
Ego stylist for one year before endeavoring
on their own.
 The
impact of Shear Ego's revolutionary training
could be seen not only in the swelling numbers
of satisfied clients, but also with the
ever-increasing collection of stylist applications
Shear Ego was acquiring. It was evident
that Rochester's hair community wanted more
of Shear Ego's progressive education and
training. In 1986, Gene Cardamone responded
to that demand by transforming his state-of-the-art
spa and salon into Shear Ego International
School.
In 1997, Gene persuaded Peter Webb, long-time
friend, teacher and Great Britain's world-champion
hairstylist, to leave England and join him
as Artistic Director of the salon and school.
Peter keeps Shear Ego Salon and Spa - and
many other salons throughout the country
- up-to-date on the most advanced hair practices
from around the world.
Programs
Shear Ego International School
of Hair Design is committed to training
and educating professionals. We offer programs
in Cosmetology, Barber / Styling, Esthetics,
and Nail Specialty to help students prepare
for the New York State Physical Board Examination.
Hairdressing &
Cosmetology
Our Hairdressing and Cosmetology Program
is designed to fashion you into a highly
skilled hair professional, expertly trained
in all aspects of cosmetology. You will
experience extensive training covering hair
treatments, shaping, analysis, coloring,
styling, texturizing, perming, braiding
and relaxing. You will also learn scalp
treatments, facials, makeup and manicuring.
Both theory and practical knowledge will
be presented to you in a multitude of methods
(classroom, workshops, audiovisual lectures
and demonstrations) to ensure that you pass
the New York State Board Examinations.
Once a solid understanding of the fundamentals
of hairdressing has been established, you
will experience our La Coiffure Seminar,
an advanced hair cutting class. Under the
direction of Peter Webb, world-champion
hairstylist, you will refine and finesse
your skills, empowering you to develop into
a true artist and craftsman.
Esthetics, Skin
Care & Makeup
 We
teach you state-of-the-art skin remedies

you'll have obtained a thorough education
in the biology and art of the skin care
industry.

Barber / Styling
Program
Our Barber/Styling Program will expose you
to all aspects of Barbering through lecture,
practice demonstration, audio-visual materials,
practical and theory worksheets with illustrations
and client work.
Our expansive program covers the history
of barber/styling, bacteriology, sterilization
and sanitation in the workplace, treatment
of hair and scalp, facial massage and treatment,
shaving, hair cutting, hair styling, mustache
and beard design, men's hair pieces, anatomy
and physiology, tools and equipment, maintaining
a professional image, the job search, selling
in the barber/styling shop, shop management
and licensing laws.
Nail Specialty: Manicuring, Pedicuring and
Artificial Nails
In our Nail Specialty Program, you will
learn how to meticulously maintain the hands
and feet by providing numerous manicuring
and pedicuring services. You will experience
classroom and workshop training, allowing
you to become proficient in manicuring and
pedicuring; gel; acrylics; silk, linen and
fiberglass wraps; nail art techniques; tip
application and design; nail wrapping; hand
and arm massage; corrections and repairs
and client consultation. You will also gain
knowledge in anatomy and physiology, bacteria
and infectious disease as well as learn
pragmatic job skills and ethical business
practices.
Financial Aid
At Shear Ego International School we strive
