Virginia School of Massage was founded in
Charlottesville, VA in 1989. In January
1998,the Virginia School of Massage was
first granted accreditation by the Accrediting
Commission of Career Schools and Colleges
of Technology (ACCSCT) and in April of 2000
the school was programmatically accredited
by the Commission of Career Schools and
Colleges of Technology (COMTA).
Virginia School of Massage is located just
off Route 29 in Charlottesville. It is housed
in a lovely two story building with large
windows looking out on a courtyard garden
on one side and a pine grove on the other.
Programs Offered
Skin Care Training
PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
This program offers the most pertinent theoretical
and practical components of skin care training.
The theory component emphasizes the study
of the function and structure of the body
and skin, the latest body and facial treatments,
dermatology, chemistry and product ingredients,
business and career development, hair removal,
electricity and salon safety. The practical
portion of the program will develop the
student’s dexterity, manipulative skills
and confidence required to be an effective
esthetician. This Basic Skin Care Program
offers instruction in basic facials, makeup
application, extensive waxing procedures,
non-waxing hair removal and rapid exfoliants.
Students will be using state of the industry
equipment and will be exposed to exceptional
guest speakers and faculty who are well
renowned in their areas of expertise. This
program meets the requirements set forth
in the Board of Barbers and Cosmetology
Laws and Rules 18VAC 41-40-190 through 18VAC
41-40-200, and offers reciprocity in 38
states.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
To develop in students the skills necessary
to become successful as an esthetician in
the state of Virginia and to meet the needs
of the skin care community which they will
enter. Students will have a thorough working
knowledge of the structure and function
of the skin, be able to provide preventative
care for the skin and offer treatments to
keep the skin healthy and attractive. This
program will train students to perform facials
manually and with the aid of machines, to
apply corrective, camouflage and daily enhancement
makeup and how to safely remove superfluous
hair on the face through debilitation and
epilation.
Career Services
All SEG campuses staff a Career Services
Department. We are here to assist you in
achieving your goals. Whether you are interested
in seeing the world and working aboard a
cruise ship or if you would prefer a land
based position, the Career Services Department
at SEG has built a relationship with some
of the most successful employers in the
industry. Career Development classes are
integrated into all of our programs and
include resume writing and interviewing
strategies. Additionally, career fairs are
held annually and are open to all SEG graduates.
This service is available to all SEG graduates
at any of our seven locations.
