Overview
This 33-week diploma program is designed for those who wish to work in the field of esthetics in a spa or in beauty product sales. Individuals working in the field of esthetics provide services such as facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures and make-up application. The curriculum includes experiential lectures, workshops facilitated by trained estheticians and guest speakers from the spa industry. The successful completion of all 14 modules is required for program graduation.
Sample Careers The field of esthetics is a rapidly evolving field. Due to the growth of service industries, people are more concerned about their appearance. There is also a greater acceptance of specialized care providers, such as personal trainers, estheticians and style consultants. Some career paths open to an esthetician are in the following:
- Esthetician in a spa
- Self-employed esthetician
- Esthetics instructor or educator
- Beauty writer
- Sales person for the beauty products field

Program Module Orientation & Study Skills - This course provides an orientation to the College and its policies and procedures, along with an overview of the entire Medical Esthetics Practitioner program.
Professional Communication - This course focuses on the development of professional identity and the professional skills required for responsible practice, e.g., basic interviewing skills, writing and documentation, oral presentations, conflict resolution and supporting the development of positive self esteem.
Best Business Practices - Interpersonal, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, customer service, sales and reception skills will be covered in this module. The students are expected to understand the concepts of responsibility and accountability to patients/clients, co-workers and their employer as well as the importance of attitude.
Anatomy and Physiology - The course will provide the student with an understanding of all the body systems affected by medical esthetics and cosmetic surgery procedures.
Safety, Health and Infection Control - Students will review and practice the basic principals of safety, including Universal Precautions, fire, electrical and work hazard materials safety.
Bacteriology - In this module, students will review the classification and types of bacterial agents, bacterial growth and reproduction, bacterial infections and their prevention, immunity and body defences, methods of infection control as well as the effects of physical and chemical agents commonly found in esthetic procedures.
Skin Histology and Physiology - This module will focus on the integumentary system, including detailed study of cells, tissues, and the skin as an organ.
Manicures and Pedicures - In this module, students will develop an awareness of personal and public hygiene; sterilization and sanitization measures while putting into practice the learned skills of complete manicure and pedicure procedures.
Make-Up Artistry - Students will gain knowledge of facial and bone structures, identifying prominent facial shapes, classification of eyes, brows and lips.
Aromatherapy Level One - Students will be introduced to Aromatherapy through the study of Aroma History, beginning with ancient cultures, and leading to modern times.
Assessment and Documentation - This module will introduce the student to advanced skin assessment within a variety of assessment frameworks related to esthetic and surgical practice.
Skin Disorders and Conditions - This course provides an intensive overview of skin conditions and diseases seen by estheticians and medical aestheticians in common practice.
Skin Care and Waxing - This course provides the student with skill in application of a variety of facials and skin care services. Students will also learn and practice techniques of nourishing massage to induce relaxation, improved tissue stimulation and circulation.
Practicum - The student will complete a practicum at a spa.
MEP Program Review and Career Search Strategies - This course focuses on developing professional career search techniques and launching a job search.
