Skin Care & Esthetics Schools in California
With the reputation California has for being focused on beauty, it's no surprise that the demand for qualified estheticians in California is high. Interest in the profession is robust, as well. In a recent 9-month period, nearly 3,000 new estheticians were licensed in California. Working in a licensed salon in California, estheticians perform a wide range of skin care treatments, from facials and skin analysis to hair removal and makeup application, not to mention steams, wraps, extractions and so many more skin care services. To work in California, estheticians must be licensed by the state's Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. There are many esthetics schools in California, including several affiliated with national beauty companies. Courses typically include skin analysis and care, hair removal, exfoliation, salon management, facials and makeup application. For those looking for approved California esthetics schools, you've come to the right place. Students must graduate from an approved school and have at least 600 hours of training to be eligible for the state licensing exam. The California esthetician license exam includes a practical portion testing the applicant's skills in areas like set-up and client protection, eyebrow shaping and hair removal, facial massage, facial mask and facial makeup. Annual income for California estheticians is slightly higher than the national average. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that California skin care specialists earn about $33,000 each year, with plenty of potential for additional income through tips, and lots of opportunity to grow in the field. Not only is it one of the highest paying states in the nation for estheticians, it also has two of the top five highest paying metro areas - San Francisco and Sunnyvale. The benefits of becoming an esthetician are many. In addition to helping others look their best, estheticians can help clients feel better, as well, through facial massage and assisting clients in proper, healthy skin care.
