In order to take the written and practical exams for a cosmetology license, the Florida board requires 1200 hours of cosmetology of training at an approved school for cosmetology. After graduating and getting licensed, FL cosmetologists should be equipped to pursue jobs as hairstylists, hair color specialists, nail technicians, makeup artists, and so much more. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary of cosmetologists in Florida averages around $22,050, but it usually ranges from $16,400 to $38,030, though that figure does not include tips. The BLS also estimates that job demand will grow for personal appearance workers by 14% through the year 2020.
