Skin Care & Esthetics Schools in Louisiana

The warm, humid climate of Louisiana makes it necessary for people to take care of their skin to keep looking healthy and young. Louisiana estheticians, or skin care professionals working in the cosmetology industry, specialize in helping clients care for their skin, by offering their knowledge and services to clients. The esthetics schools in Louisiana provide a well-rounded curriculum that prepares prospective estheticians to deal with the many challenges of skin care that clients experience. To apply for an esthetician license in Louisiana, applicants must be at least 16 years old, have successfully completed the 10th grade of an approved high school and at least 750 hours of training from one of the Louisiana esthetics schools. Students also need to pass the required examinations and pay the licensing fees. The esthetics schools in Louisiana offer a full curriculum for estheticians and skin care specialists. Esthetician courses are often part of the overall 1,500 hour cosmetology curriculum at most schools, but a 750-hour training program specific to skin care in an esthetics school in Louisiana is also an option. Prospective estheticians learn about giving facials, cleansing and moisturizing of the skin and skin disorders. Additionally, Louisiana estheticians are trained in color theory and the various types of makeup and their applications. Other courses include anatomy and physiology courses as well as chemistry courses, including sanitation and sterilization of tools. Many curriculums at esthetics schools in Louisiana may also include courses in ethics, salon management and salesmanship. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that job demand for estheticians will increase at a rate of 25% through the year 2020, faster than the average for other occupations. There are many career opportunities available for estheticians working in salons, spas, medical offices or independently.
