Maryland Skin Care & Esthetics Schools

Esthetics is the study of the art, science and skill of appearance enhancement through the care and treatment of skin. The job involves skin analysis, developing skincare regimens for clients, makeup artistry, waxing of unwanted hair, shaping of eyebrows and more. Spa treatments such as body wraps and polishes are also covered under the field of skin care. Micro-dermabrasion and chemical exfoliation are some of the more advanced techniques many skin care experts learn to perform. The esthetician is a skincare specialist who requires specialized training, which is tailored to fit the current trends in a constantly evolving field. Does this sound like a good fit for you? Esthetics schools in Maryland could help you make this dream a reality.

Get Esthetics Training in Maryland

Maryland esthetics schools teach students the skills and science behind skin care and treatment. Skincare specialists should be more in demand over the next several years as more salons and spas open. The field should grow by at least 25 percent by the year 2020, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. People in Maryland with interests in the beauty industry may be able to look forward to a bright future with a degree in esthetics. They will learn to provide skin analysis, skincare treatments, makeup artistry, hair removal waxing, and more.

Earn Your Maryland Esthetician License

The Maryland Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing issues esthetics licenses. Students must be 17 and have a 9th grade education or GED to enroll in Maryland skin care schools. They can then choose to complete 600 hours of training from a school, or 12 months as a registered and supervised apprentice in a licensed salon. Apprentices must work at least 20 hours per week while they earn their training hours. After training or schooling, students must pass the state exams before their license is issued.

Beauty and skin care students in schools and apprenticeships learn the basics of skin treatments and beauty enhancements. This can include learning about anatomy and physiology, skin chemistry, application of makeup, types of facials, hair removal, and skin waxing. Often topics such as ethics, salon practices, and sanitation of salon equipment are classes included in the esthetics school curriculum.
