Not only are trained estheticians able to perform skin care procedures and services, but they also have the knowledge and background needed to recommend product and care regimens to help their clients with everything from the management of acne to anti-aging routines.

Get Esthetics Training in New Mexico

Esthetics schools in New Mexico appeal to students with a strong desire to learn about skin, skin care, and professional skin enhancement techniques. The New Mexico climate can be harsh on skin, so people who help others maintain healthy, youthful looking skin are in high demand. For those wanting to learn to be professional makeup artists in the film or television industry, esthetics is also the right course of study.

Earn Your New Mexico Esthetician License

Prior to entering the workforce as a skin care professional, students must first complete 600 hours of education in an approved New Mexico esthetics school. Students must be 17 years old and have a high school diploma or GED to begin school. New Mexico does not allow students to train for their licenses through apprenticeships. After school is completed, students must pass both a written and a practical test. Tests are available in English or Spanish. When all the requirements are met, the New Mexico Board of Barbers & Cosmetologists issues the esthetician license. Skin care professionals in New Mexico may use skin care products and techniques, cosmetics, and specialized skin care machines to provide services. New Mexico does not allow licensed estheticians to call themselves "medical estheticians," even if they provide care to patients with skin damage due to illness, injury, or burns. Estheticians still practice alongside doctors and provide these services, though. Patients with skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis will still be referred out to dermatologists by licensed estheticians.
