Oregon requires cosmetologists and those who want to work in any beauty-related career to become licensed after attending one of the approved beauty schools in Oregon. The Oregon Department of Education specifies rules regarding different programs and hours of training required, including 150 hours of safety and infection training. There is also a written and practical exam beauticians must pass. Beauty school can educate students about shampooing, conditioning, cutting, coloring and styling hair, applying nail polish and acrylics in manicures and pedicures, and applying makeup. After attending one of the many beauty schools in Oregon, students go on to become cosmetologists, manicurists, pedicurists and skin care specialists, among other beauty trades. The state of Oregon requires 2300 hours of training to sit for the board exams and get your cosmetology license, 350 hours to become a nail technician, or 250 hours to become an esthetician. The average salary range for cosmetologists is $18,270 to $42,430 per year before tips, with a median OR cosmetologist salary of $22,450. The average median salary for nail technicians is $18,130 and the median salary for estheticians is $35,850 in Oregon.

Apply for a Beauty School Scholarship

Apply for our $2,500 beauty school scholarship to help pay for school. We award one $2,500 scholarship every 3 months to an aspiring student of cosmetology, barbering, esthetics, nail tech, makeup or one of the other beauty disciplines. The annual deadlines are January 31, April 30, July 31 and October 31. This scholarship can be used to attend cosmetology schools, nail technology programs, esthetics schools, laser hair removal training, permanent makeup school or any of the other programs listed on this site.
