Apply for your cosmetology license after graduating from cosmetology school in Maryland. The Maryland Board of Cosmetologists charges a $25 licensing fee. In addition, you pay a combined testing fee of $79 to take the written and skills tests. Passing both exams is the final step to becoming a licensed cosmetologist in Maryland.

Education Details

Attending cosmetology school in MD gives you the chance to learn from experienced cosmetologists and instructors who have mastered important cosmetology skills. To qualify for licensure after graduation, you must complete at least 1,500 hours of training. Your education must cover specific topics, as determined by the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists.

License Renewal Period

Maryland requires you to renew your license every two years on the expiration date of your license. The cost to renew your license is $25, or $50 if you are a salon owner. You must also pay a $25 late fee if you renew your license after the expiration date. Currently, Maryland does not require CEUs to renew licenses, but continuing education hours are always recommended to stay current in the industry.
