Q&A with Sarah Kate Foster, Fall 2025 BSD Scholarship winner

What would winning this scholarship mean to you and your cosmetology career?
It means a lot to me and my family! My husband works full-time to support us so I can pursue my dream. This scholarship has been a great help!

What do you believe will help you be successful as a cosmetologist?
Embracing criticism gracefully and continuing my education after graduation. I binge-watched Tabatha Takes Over on YouTube, and she emphasized that!

What are your career goals after finishing your program? What do the next 1–3 years look like? Where do you hope to be in 10 years?
I aim to land an assistant position at a high-end salon in town, shadow the stylists, and learn everything!

In 1-3 years, I want to be a full-time stylist, fully booked with clients, and volunteering at my church’s homeless ministry, offering free makeovers and hair services to those experiencing homelessness or poverty, also helping them choose clothes for job interviews.

In 10 years, I hope to specialize in a particular service, own my own high-end salon, and run a nonprofit mobile salon that serves nonprofits in town, providing outreach and services.
