I decided to get a lip blushing procedure because my natural lip color was uneven and slightly darker, and I wanted a brighter, more natural tone. Before the treatment, I specifically asked the artist whether I needed lip neutralization first, and she told me I didn’t — that she could go straight into lip blush. After the first session, my lips healed very dark, much darker than before. I told her about it, and she said it would improve after the touch-up session. Unfortunately, after the touch-up, my lips still healed dark and uneven, and the results were nowhere near what I expected. When I mentioned this, she offered me a third session, but I decided not to continue. I later consulted other permanent makeup artists, and all of them confirmed that my lips should have been neutralized first due to my natural pigmentation. To make things worse, the pigment went outside my natural lip line and was done unevenly so it makes the asymmetry more noticeable. I trusted her because she said she had years of experience and certifications, but I feel she needs more training and awareness when working with different skin tones and natural lip colors. Now, I’m in a very difficult situation — I’ve had to start doing a lot of research on how to make this fade, including laser or saline removal treatments. Unfortunately, it’s been hard to find specialists near me, and most options I’ve found are in New York, Texas, Washington, or Toronto. That means I’ll have to spend a lot more money and possibly travel just to correct something that could have been avoided with the right assessment in the first place. On top of that, I now feel so insecure about my lips. The whole purpose of getting lip blushing was so that I could feel confident without wearing lip products, but now even my makeup can’t cover the darkness properly. Instead of gaining confidence, this experience has made me feel worse about something I was trying to fix. This experience has been emotionally and financially exhausting, and I truly regret doing it. I hope the artist takes this feedback seriously and becomes more cautious when treating clients — especially when it comes to understanding different skin tones and lip pigmentation. Not everyone’s skin reacts the same way, and proper preparation and honesty are crucial before performing this kind of procedure. *First picture is my lips before, second and third picture are my lips now*
