I came in today looking for a corrective cut on a terrible layered cut I paid a ridiculous amount of money for at a high end salon. As soon as I saw Crystallynn and Mr. J, I knew I was in good hands. Crystallynn may actually be the sweetest, warmest woman I’ve ever met. And her instructor, Mr. J, is a deeply meticulous and kind educator. Together, they walked me through every step they would take to make my hair perfect. I felt really safe. She really took the time to get to know my hair. This is the best cut I’ve ever had and I will follow Crystallynn anywhere she goes. I took a chance on Empire after a friend recommended them to me and I’m so glad I did. The attention to detail while cutting and all around enthusiasm about hair is so refreshing and made me feel amazing. I cannot recommend Crystallynn or Empire enough to anyone thinking of getting a service. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!!

Went for the first time and got a blow dry by the lovely Shaunise. She did a great job as I was her first blow dry client, and as someone who managed a hair salon for 6 years I was super impressed! The blow dry was $10 which is out of this world, and made the appointment same day. Shaunise was very knowledgeable on products and gave me what I wanted, AND she’s very gentle on the scalp. Highly recommend!!

I’ve been going to Empire Beauty School in Astoria for years, and I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad experience. The staff and students are always professional, accommodating, and incredibly welcoming. On my most recent visit, I had the pleasure of being taken care of by Yeison Lunor, and he was truly outstanding. Warm, very professional, and super talented, he also turned out to be a wonderful conversationalist. He asked thoughtful questions about my life and genuinely seemed interested in who I was as a person, which made the whole experience feel even more personal and enjoyable. I tend to be indecisive, so this time I let him take the lead. I told him I trusted his judgment—and he absolutely earned that trust. Yeison took his time, paying close attention to every detail to make sure I ended up with a cut and style that would make me happy. From deciding on a style to the wash and blow-dry, Yeison made this baby boomer feel completely pampered. I walked in feeling a bit frumpy and left feeling refreshed and a touch glamorous. His warm, fun, and very knowledgeable supervisor, Mr. Morales, told me I was in good hands, and he would occasionally stop by to advise Yeison, often complimenting his exceptional work as my hair style was coming together, which made me feel even more confident in the result. I appreciated seeing the collaborative, supportive relationship between students and supervisors, and even when Yeison was briefly called away to help other students or clients, I never felt rushed or overlooked. I truly hope this creative and talented young man fulfills his dream of opening his own salon one day. If he continues giving clients the same attention, care, and genuine interest he gave me, he will be an incredible success.
