Yet another confirmation that educational institutions exist to further their own bureaucracy rather than mentor and educate young adults. We moved to NC in June 2023 and this summer, 2025, we were reassured THREE times and IN WRITING by CPCC that "as long as you are a resident of 12 months during the semester in which you take the class you can get refunded." There never was mention that the RDS check had to done within the semester and the refund requested before the student even finishes the term and gets a grade. My kids requested their refund 2 weeks after their semester ended and were rejected. The classes were subpar at best, professors were lazy and they just did them because they have double majors at their 4 yr college. If I were in the market for a community college, I'd avoid this institution. Not sure why anyone in 2025 would attend community college unless they were headed to a 4 yr college afterwards. The degrees are useless compared to the return on trade school.

I feel like I had a really good experience enrolling into this college. They have so many classes offered online and on campus. Everyone has been super helpful starting with the student navigators. I wasn’t going to apply because of all the bad reviews; but decided to see for myself. Everyone answers quickly through emails and when i called i had no issues getting in touch with anyone i needed so that was a plus. & believe me i spoke to everyone, Cashier’s office, registrar office, financial aid, my advisors, and the student navigators. Everyone was helpful and friendly.

While CPCC offers strong class content, the overall student experience has been frustrating. One of the biggest challenges is their current 8-week course structure for most classes since COVID. It’s extremely overwhelming to absorb so much material in such a short amount of time, especially when you’re balancing multiple classes plus life. There should be flexible options for every course, not just fast-paced formats.
On top of that, support is lacking. Academic advisors often seem uninformed and dismissive, and it’s hard to find anyone who genuinely listens or offers helpful guidance. There’s a noticeable lack of empathy and direction. As a returning adult student, I’ve felt brushed aside more than once. Despite having a qualifying GPA, I’m often excluded from opportunities that seem geared only toward younger students.
I’ve made real efforts to get involved and represent as an engaged student, but it’s been draining feeling like I don’t belong. I’m committed to finishing my education, but can’t wait to transfer. I truly hope CPCC improves its student support and offers more inclusive, flexible options that work for everyone, not just one type of student.
