Nail Technology

Nails say something about a person. Whether someone has understated nude natural nails or long nails with detailed nail art, they show you a person’s style, priorities, and beauty habits

When you become a nail technician in Missouri, you can change and adjust your skills to fit the unique needs of every client that sits in your chair.

State License Requirements

Your training is a big part of becoming a licensed nail technician. This process goes through the Missouri Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners. They require 400 hours of education, which you may be able to complete in a matter of weeks as a full-time student. When you submit your application materials, you must pay a $250 fee and take two licensing exams. Once these requirements are met, you can get your initial full practice license and start working.

License Renewal Period

In Missouri, you can qualify for the nail technician license application process by completing at least 400 hours of training, or 800 hours of an apprenticeship at a licensed facility. Once you earn your license, you will need to renew it in odd-numbered years, no later than September 30th. If you are an instructor or operator, the fee is the same - $30. Missouri does not make you take continuing education courses to keep your nail tech license valid between renewal periods. When you speak with nail schools, ask how they can help you prepare for licensure.
