TN nail tech programs should prepare you to get your license after graduation. You must pay $140 to the Tennessee Division of Regulatory Boards and sign up to take your licensing exams. After your application is approved and you pass both exams, you can receive your initial license!

Education Details

You build the foundation of your career in a nail technician program. The state of Tennessee requires you to spend at least 600 hours on your education, which means that you may be able to earn your license in a matter of months. As you learn about theory, you put theories to work by practicing on mannequins. Once you’ve gotten enough practice, you can work with clients while being supervised by an instructor.

Cosmetology license renewal in Tennessee is required every two years, and you can renew your license up to 60 days before its expiration date. Barber license renewal costs $80. Cosmetologist, esthetician, nail technician, natural hairstylist and shampooer license renewal costs $50. Instructor license renewal costs $60. You must pay a $25 late fee if your application is received after the expiration date. Cosmetology and barber instructors must complete 16 approved CEUs every two years. There are currently no continuing education requirements for beauty practitioners.

It takes about a year to complete during the day schedule and approximately 18 months in the evening. As a student at the Institute you will be learn everything you need to know to begin a skincare career from the basic facial to rejuvenating procedures including microdermabrasion, galvanic, high frequency and ultrasonic treatments. Students learn several techniques for exfoliation as hair removal becomes more in demand for both men and women in the spa environment. Instruction in spa body treatments will teach you how to help your clients achieve a sense of relaxation and balance as well as for detoxification of the body. The science and art of makeup is explored during the course and the student will decide if he or she wants to move more toward the spa setting or the medical setting and ample opportunity is available for study in either area. This program is offered in both the Day and Evening Schedules and will prepare the student for a career in esthetics and for the licensing examination of the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology. Advanced courses are available to our graduates and other licensed esthetician in Applied Clinical Esthetics (ACE) for those interested in working for a medical professional or facility.
