Laser Training

Beauty is an industry that spans across all ages, demographic groups, and income levels. Everyone wants to look as good as they possibly can, and laser hair removal is one way that people can improve their confidence and eliminate an annoying step in their beauty routines.

Thanks to a variety of Arizona laser training programs, you have many opportunities to learn how to use a laser to effectively and painlessly remove hair. When you complete your training, you can choose to apply for work in a variety of settings.

State License Requirements

Arizona is one state that has specific licensing and regulation requirements for laser technicians. The Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency checks the education and credentials of all aspiring laser technicians. To apply for licensure, you must provide proof of 40 hours of didactic training and completion of 10 laser hair removal procedures. You must also pay a $30 licensing fee. When your application is approved, you earn the title of laser technician.

Education Details

Education is important part of getting certified in this field. In fact, the Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency has specific training requirements for applicants.

The school you choose to attend must cover the following topics:

  • Laser and device descriptions
  • Radiation fundamentals
  • Laser mediums, types of lasers, and light-emitting devices
  • Bodily effects of lasers
  • Damage mechanisms and eye hazards, skin hazards, absorption, and thermal effects
  • Photochemistry
  • Photosensitive medications
  • Anesthesia techniques
  • Device settings
  • Expected and adverse patient responses to treatment
  • Anatomy and physiology of hair and skin
  • Control measures
  • Medical surveillance practices
  • Laws and statutes

By the time you graduate from one of the approved laser training programs in AZ, you should be able to skillfully discuss laser technology, consult with clients, and perform procedures in an efficient, timely manner.

Job Outlook Increase
Between 2012 - 2022

The beauty industry is growing all over the United States, and a big part of that growth comes from skin care specialists like laser technicians. Between 2012 and 2022, job openings for Arizona skin care specialists may increase 45% (O*Net, 2016). Skin specialists report an average salary of $32,100 per year in Arizona (O*Net, 2016). As you prepare for your career, you have to decide which employment path you would like to follow. Some laser technicians go into business for themselves, renting a room or salon space to provide services. Others become conventionally employed at spas, salons, and hair removal clinics. These are both viable options—you simply have to decide whether or not you are business-minded and if you are able and willing to market yourself.

Working as a Laser Technician

Arizona hair removal and skin care technicians have plenty of job options. A technician can work independently, work in salons, or work in healthcare facilities. There is an optimistic job outlook for Arizona hair removal and skincare technicians. Men and women in Arizona care about maintaining their physical appearance, and hair removal and skincare technicians help them accomplish that.
