Laser Training

Michigan

The beauty industry is always changing! As a result, the industry is always adding and changing job titles and options. You may not have to dedicate a full year of education to earn a cosmetology license and start working in Michigan. Instead, you can choose a more specialized career, attend a shorter training program, and start working.

Consider what the field of laser hair removal has to offer. It’s become much more affordable in recent years, which means more people are looking for laser hair removal services. After finishing your education, you may work in a local spa, salon, or hair removal clinic.

Completing a comprehensive training program may put you in a good position to begin your career as a laser technician. In Michigan, you are required to work with a physician if you want to provide laser hair removal services (Michigan Board of Medicine, 2016). You can only perform this service when it is assigned to you by a licensed physician who is ready to take responsibility for the work you do. To determine whether or not you can safely work independently, your supervising physician may ask about your training, observe you while working, and provide additional training or feedback when necessary.

Like many states, Michigan requires medical doctors to make sure that laser technicians are competent in the delivery of these procedures. That’s why we recommend taking a laser certification course or program that is recognized by the National Council on Laser Certification (NCLC). They set the standards that are considered the highest for practitioners. Once you complete your training and register with this organization, you will need to renew your certification every three years. To do so, you will submit a $95 fee, along with this application.

Working as a Laser Technician

Hair removal and skin care technicians have three primary job options. One, the medical field. Patients medically motivated to seek skin care consultations are eager to find trained technicians to assist them. Two, the beauty industry. Salon environments offer technicians an array of clients seeking beauty treatments. Third, entrepreneurship. Working independently is always a job option for trained technicians. The numbers point to an optimistic job outlook for hair removal and skin care technicians in Michigan.
