Laser Training

Learning a beauty specialty can be an excellent way to create a professional reputation for yourself in your community and reach a very specific group of clients.

Laser hair removal, one of the first types of permanent hair removal to hit the market, is one of those specialties.

State License Requirements

Since laser hair removal is considered a medical procedure, not a cosmetic procedure, it is not licensed by the cosmetology board. Nevada law requires that any laser facility have a medical director, who may remain on-site or off-site during procedures. You may complete your training through a laser technician program or under the guidance of a physician. Regardless of which training route you choose, it’s important to get hands-on experience with a laser.

Education Details

As part of your training, you’ll learn about the different parts of the body where laser hair removal is used. Not only will you discover the general laser techniques used in this field, you’ll learn how to tailor each technique to suit different skin types and different body parts.

Job Outlook Increase
Between 2012 - 2022

As most states, Nevada has a very high demand for skin care specialists. O*Net predicts a 33% boost in jobs by the year 2022. Skin care specialists in this state bring in an average salary of $20,500 per year (O*Net, 2015).

Working as a Laser Technician

When you graduate from your laser training program, you should feel confident about your laser skills and your ability to provide excellent service to customers. However, there is still a bit of a learning curve when you start working independently. Since this is such a precise process, you may find that your appointments are very long in the early days of your career. Getting experience can help you perfect your technique and build your skills when you are a new laser technician. This may help you fit in more appointments each day and increase your earning potential.
