At most programs, you can begin working as a laser technician after a few weeks or months of full-time training. During your training, you learn about the theory of laser hair removal and practice your hands-on skills. When you graduate, you may be ready to take on positions in a variety of beauty settings.

State License Requirements

After you successfully graduate from your laser program, there is a bit more you have to do before you can begin working. The New Mexico Medical Board is responsible for laser procedures and who is allowed to perform them. The New Mexico Medical Board allows medical doctors to delegate laser procedures to non-medical professionals, including laser technicians. However, this means that your skills must be good enough to make a facility’s medical director feel confident about taking responsibility for your activities. The medical director must provide supervision for laser procedures, either directly or indirectly.
