Laser Training
West Virginia

Working in the beauty industry is an exciting way to make a living. You get the chance to work with lots of different people, explore new types of technology, and learn new skills every day. However, a full cosmetology license isn’t the only option in West Virginia.

At WV laser training courses, you can learn about hair growth and how to stop it with a high-powered laser. The skills you develop as a laser technician student can help you meet customers’ needs and let them enjoy the benefits of hair removal.

State License Requirements

Laser facilities in West Virginia all employ medical directors, per the West Virginia Board of Medicine. As a non-medical technician, you must be supervised by the medical director. However, you can work without direct supervision with the consent of the medical director.

Education Details

There are several steps you have to follow to become a laser technician in West Virginia. First, you should find a laser school that fits your learning style and schedule. One of the main benefits of laser training is the fact that you can complete your education very quickly. The majority of schools allow you to graduate in less than a month.

While completing your school’s curriculum, you should delve into subjects like:

  • Hair growth causes and stages
  • Medical terminology
  • Laser hair removal systems
  • Safety and precautions
  • Tissue interaction
  • Sanitation and sterilization
  • Pre-treatment and post-treatment protocols
  • Technology of hair removal
  • Laser hair removal consultations

In the classroom, you build a foundation for a rewarding career in laser technology. Laser training programs in WV aim to provide you with the experience you need to work independently on any part of the body. By the time you graduate, you should have experience with several different lasers used in hair removal. In addition, you must be able to use a laser to remove unwanted hair of all textures.

They set the standards that doctors and state agencies rely on to ensure you can deliver high quality care to patients. Once you complete your registration, you will need to renew every three years. You will submit an application, along with a $95 renewal fee.

Job Outlook Increase
Between 2012 - 2022

After earning your laser technician certificate or diploma, it’s time to put your skills to work and get into the workforce. While most job openings may be found in urban parts of West Virginia, there are salons and spas located throughout the state. If you can get a medical director to work with you, you can even rent a room at a salon and become a self-employed laser technician. This lets you set your own schedule and become a business owner. While working as a laser tech in WV, you may earn a variety of salaries. The Bureau of Labor Statistics claims that the average salary for a West Virginia skin care specialist is $49,980 per year (2016).

Working as a Laser Technician

West Virginia hair removal and skin care technicians can, under a doctor's supervision, work directly with patients whose skin care needs are severe enough to call for medical attention. A technician may also work in a day spa administering facials, conducting laser hair removals, and providing skin care advice. Another job option is working independently. Many independent technicians travel to offer at-home services to their clients. The statistics predict a good job outlook for hair removal and skin care technicians.
