A Massage Therapist (MT) must complete at least 600 hours of instruction from an approved massage therapy school and pass either the NCBTMB or the MBLEx national certification exam. This will allow them to be licensed in the state to practice massage therapy. A Massage Apprentice (MA) is an individual licensed to work under the direct supervision of a licensed massage therapist. MAs must document at least 1000 hours of supervised training and pass the Utah Massage Theory Examination. Both the massage therapist and massage apprentice are required to pass the Utah Massage Law Exam to obtain their licenses.
