All beauty professionals are licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling. When you submit your application, you must pay a $50 filing fee and a $60 licensing fee. In addition, you must submit proof of your passing scores on the written exam and the skills exam.

Education Details

To become a cosmetologist in New Jersey, you must get at least 1,200 hours of training at an approved school. In the classroom, you tackle beauty theory, terminology, laws, and ethics. On the salon floor, you practice skills on mannequin heads. Once you’ve gotten enough experience that way, you work on clients under instructor supervision. Cosmetology license renewal in New Jersey happens biannually on even-numbered years. The cost to renew a beauty practitioner's license is $60. Cosmetology continuing education is not required for most licenses, although electrology licensees must do 2 CEUs each licensure period. Though continuing education may not be required for some practitioners' licenses, cosmetology CEUs are always recommended to stay current in the industry. If licenses are expired more than 7 years, you must take a 250-hour refresher course and you must re-take the exams.

The Senior Clinic patrons pay a reduced fee for services performed by students in training. As a Senior student you will perform services on clients, building your self-esteem and knowledge. COSMETOLOGY The educational objective of the complete Cosmetology curriculum is to provide the student with sufficient training to pass the State Board Exam, become properly licensed, and perform duties required under such license to secure employment at an entry level. A cosmetologist/hairstylist license allows an individual to practice all phases of cosmetology. Hair, Skincare, Nails & Barbering. AESTHETICS The educational objectives of the Aesthetics curriculum is to provide the student with sufficient training to pass the State Board Exam, become properly licensed and perform all duties required under such license to secure employment at an entry level. An aesthetics license allows an individual to practice all phases of aesthetics. (Facials, Waxing, Body Treatment and Makeup Artistry). Financial Aid Financial Aid provides assistance to students who qualify for educational related expense. Artistic Academy of Hair Design provides financial assistance approved by the U.S. Department of Education for the following programs to qualified students in order to help meet the costs of education: Pell Grant (Government Funded) SEOG Grant Direct Student Subsidized Loan Direct Student Unsubsidized Loan Direct Parent Plus Loan ACE Grants Artistic Academy Scholarship We believe every student should be able to obtain an education regardless of financial status. Our Financial Aid office will assist students in completing the necessary forms and counsel students on money management and loan responsibility. To determine a student's financial need, we utilize the Federal Need Analysis set forth by the U.S. Department of Education. For funds to be available for students, we encourage candidate students to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at least 30 days prior to their start date.
