North Dakota

Shaving is an expected, but often unpleasant, beauty routine for men and women all across America.

However, thanks to technology in the cosmetology industry, there are new, easier ways for people to permanently get rid of hair on their face or body! Want to explore a career in hair removal?

State License Requirements

You must meet the licensure requirements of the North Dakota State Board of Cosmetology before working independently as an electrologist. This requires the completion of a 600-hour electrolysis program and a passing score on the state’s standardized exam for electrologists.

Education Details

The education you receive in electrology is divided into several main areas. You learn how to perform specific electrology tasks efficiently and effectively, develop clinical skills during practical experiences, advance your communication skills with peers and patients, and explore issues in law and ethics in this field. Some of the courses you may take as an electrology student are based in theory, while others focus on practical experience. You may cover many different topics in this field, including skin and hair growth, client consultation skills, skin conditions that affect electrolysis, and causes of excessive hair growth. Some of the skills you may work on in this type of course include the single needle method, the multiple needle method, thermolysis, and a blend method. You can also get lots of hands-on experience.

Working as an Electrologist

As you start your career in electrology, you may find that this is a great time to explore the field of electrolysis. This field’s popularity is growing, increasing the need for skilled practitioners all over the state. In fact, practitioners can now enjoy Electrology Awareness Month. By participating in events like Electrology Awareness Month, you may be able to reach more people and educate them on the power of electrolysis. Though many people think that women are the main clients of electrologists, you may find that you actually serve a very diverse set of clients. Many men are embarrassed of their body hair, leading them to discreetly seek out the services of an electrologist. You may also work with teenagers, particularly those who have excessive hair growth that they can’t keep under control with shaving. No matter who comes through your door in search of your hair removal services, it’s important to treat them with respect and help them find the solution that’s right for them.
