West Virginia is a state that does not currently regulate electrology licensure. Even though you will not have to pass in-state specific requirements, you are required to pass the American Electrology Association certification. This is the highest standard for excellence and quality professional care. The cost of the exam is $325 for nonmembers, and costs just $275 for members. Your certification will be valid for five years. You will have to re-certify before it expires. The AEA also offers continuing education courses that help electrologists deliver the best results for clients.

Working as an Electrologist

There are several different employment paths you may be able to consider as a new electrologist. If you live in an area where permanent hair removal is just starting to gain popularity, you may open your own shop and get a big share of the market. Otherwise, you may look for employment opportunities through spas, salons, and dermatology offices. It’s important to prepare for the variety of people who may come through your doors for permanent hair removal. While many may simply have cosmetic reasons for this procedure, others may suffer from embarrassing excessive hair growth. Sensitivity is key, no matter who you are working with.
