Some programs are designed for anyone who wants to get started in the field of cosmetology, while others are intended for licensed cosmetologists or other beauty workers. Programs typically range from one year to two years, depending on whether you want a diploma, a certificate, or an Associate’s degree.

Education Details

While preparing for a career in salon management, you may take courses that deepen your understanding of the beauty industry and strengthen your management skills. You should plan on taking courses in staff management, beauty procedures and techniques, small business management, business finance, and customer service. These programs tend to emphasize practical experience, so you may spend a considerable amount of time in the salon getting management experience.

To work as a salon manager in North Dakota, you do not need your salon management license. However, we think that you should look into cosmetology licensure if you want to pursue this role. Many cosmetology programs include business courses that help you understand the full scope of the art and science behind effective salon management. If you become a licensed cosmetologist in North Dakota, you will have to renew your license ever year, no later than December 31st – which includes a $15 fee.
