Salon Management

Salon and spa management is a career direction that some ambitious hairdressers, cosmetologists, and other members of the beauty industry pursue as a way of developing their career and increasing their earnings potential. It takes your skills in a different direction because, instead of day-to-day interaction performing beauty services for individual clients, you now take on the responsibilities and tasks of managing a business with all that entails.

For individuals who are already in the beauty industry and want to take a giant step forward in their careers, salon and spa management may be a great career move for you! Use our listings of schools to start your search today!

Between 2012 - 2022

However, as a salon or spa manager, your income has the potential to be considerably higher. Working as a Salon Manager

Salon and spa managers hold full time positions and have busy work days doing a variety of tasks. You may be the person who opens the salon or spa in the morning, and ensures that all expected employees are present. If there is an absence, you will be responsible for finding someone to fill it, you may need to fill in yourself, or you may need to arrange to have clients rescheduled. Your tasks will keep you both in the office, behind the scenes, and out on the salon floor. In the office, you will manage finances, ordering of supplies, hiring and managing staff, and related business tasks. On the floor, you will oversee the general operations of the salon or spa, and making sure employees are working efficiently, work stations are clean and tidy, and clients are happy and satisfied with the services they receive. If any issues arise, you will be the one to take care of them. A relatively new area of interest is sustainable salon and spa management, with an emphasis on conserving energy and utilizing “green” products wherever possible. This may become an area in which you choose to get involved, and there may be continuing education courses in your local cosmetology schools or community colleges that can help you develop the skills you need to go in this direction. If you are hard working and ambitious, and you want to move up in the beauty industry, consider a career as a salon or spa manager.
